Jonathan “JJ” Groszew (he/him) is an accomplished musician and seasoned orchestra personnel manager with over a decade of experience in the classical music industry. Holding an M.M. in French Horn Performance from the University of Colorado Boulder and a B.M. in Music Education from Montclair State University’s John J. Cali School of Music, JJ combines a strong educational foundation with extensive practical experience.
Currently, JJ serves as the Director of Orchestra Personnel for the Colorado Symphony in Denver, CO, a position he has held since 2018. Prior to his current role, JJ was the Assistant Orchestra Personnel Manager and Assistant Orchestra Librarian for the Colorado Symphony from 2014 to 2018. JJ’s dedication to music education is evident from his time as an Educational Outreach Teaching Artist for the Colorado Symphony (2013-2017). He played a key role in the Very Young Composers Program at Cole Arts and Science Academy, helping to expand the program to additional schools and fostering a love of music in young students. In addition to his work with the Colorado Symphony, JJ has held several other significant positions, including Orchestra Librarian and Teaching Assistant at the University of Colorado, as well as a mentor and teacher for the Greater Boulder Youth Orchestra.
JJ’s musical talents extend beyond administration. He is a regular substitute horn for the Colorado Symphony Orchestra and has performed with numerous ensembles, including the Ghost Orchestra on a national tour with Grammy Award Nominee Gregory Alan Isakov, the Central City Opera, Los Angeles Chamber Orchestra, New Mexico Philharmonic, and the Boulder Philharmonic, among others. His performance credentials are further highlighted by his participation in prestigious festivals such as the Bowdoin International Summer Music Festival, the Colorado College Summer Music Festival, and the Brevard Summer Music Festival. Throughout his career, JJ has been recognized for his musical excellence, including being a semi-finalist in the Fischoff National Chamber Music Competition in 2012 and 2013.
When not immersed in orchestral management or performance, JJ enjoys playing soccer, trying new Denver restaurants and is avid in wine. He also enjoys great quality time with the Colorado Symphony’s unofficial mascot, Jude – his golden retriever.
