Henrik Heide is Associate Principal Flutist of the Cincinnati Symphony Orchestra, appointed in 2014 by maestro Louis Langrée. Previously, he was a member of the New World Symphony in Miami Beach, Florida under the direction of Michael Tilson Thomas. Henrik has appeared as soloist with the Detroit Symphony Orchestra (conducted by Leonard Slatkin), Milwaukee Symphony Orchestra, Cincinnati Pops Orchestra, New World Symphony, and Wisconsin Chamber Orchestra, among others. He spent three summers as a Tanglewood Music Center fellow. Henrik received his Master of Music degree from The Juilliard School, studying with Jeffrey Khaner, and his Bachelor of Music degree from Rice University, studying with Leone Buyse.

Prior to his appointment in Cincinnati, Heide was a fellow with the New World Symphony in Miami Beach, Florida under the direction of Michael Tilson Thomas.
He has spent three summers as a Tanglewood Music Center fellow, including one as the only flutist in the festival’s resident contemporary music ensemble, the New Fromm Players. Heide has also participated in festivals including the Spoleto Festival USA, Pacific Music Festival (Sapporo, Japan), Music Academy of the West, Aspen Music Festival, National Orchestral Institute, National Repertory Orchestra and the Kent/Blossom Music Festival.
An advocate for contemporary music, Heide gave the world premiere of Sean Friar’s Two Solitudes for flute, viola and harp in April 2014, commissioned by Michael Tilson Thomas and the New World Symphony. He also played principal flute in the world premiere of Elliott Carter’s Three Explorations in December 2011 with Juilliard’s AXIOM ensemble at Alice Tully Hall. An avid chamber musician, Heide has performed locally with Cincinnati’s concert:nova, as well as the Cincinnati Symphony Orchestra Chamber Players.
Heide received his Master of Music degree from the Juilliard School where he was a student of Jeffrey Khaner. He previously studied with Leone Buyse at Rice University, where he received his Bachelor of Music degree cum laude. Other major teachers have included Nadine Asin, Timothy Day, Jeani Foster, Elizabeth Rowe and Joshua Smith.
