Conor Abbott Brown is a composer, clarinetist, synth programmer, and producer. Conor’s eclectic output defies genre delineation, reflecting a life-long engagement with numerous musical traditions.
As the clarinetist of the Boulder Altitude Directive, Conor premieres compositions centered in the traditions of Western classical music; as the clarinetist of Egemen Kesikli’s project Turkish Massage Owl, Conor performs folk and pop music with roots in Asia Minor and the Balkans; as a synth programmer in the electro-acoustic collective Pink Mage, Conor engages with realms of noise and dark ambient music. Conor is also active as a performer of klezmer music for weddings and other events. Conor’s compositions for orchestra have been performed by the Detroit Symphony Orchestra, the Albany Symphony, the Aspen Festival Orchestra, the Los Angeles Chamber Orchestra, and many others. Conor’s composition Ladun hiihan laulajille was presented at the Embassy of Finland in Washington D.C. in 2017 in commemoration of the centenary of Finnish independence and received repeat performances in Helsinki, Finland, and in New York City at Carnegie Hall in the Fall of 2018. Conor also has credits as a producer and composer of film music, including arranger and choral producer for the crime thriller Uncut Gems, music co-producer for the Emmy-nominated documentary-drama The Social Dilemma, and composer for the feature-length drama Unconformity. Conor is currently pursuing a doctorate in music composition at the University of Colorado at Boulder. Conor is a member of the Code Switch Composers Collective.
